Dear Friends in Christ:
It is with great joy that I greet all of you on the occasion of the Third Philippine Conference on New Evangelization (PCNE 3). Our annual gathering has received vigor from the dedicated service, cooperation, and support of the RCAM family, the University of Santo Tomas, the clergy, religious, catechists, schools, lay organizations, Jesuit Communications, students and seminarians. The work, presence, and collaboration of all these people and institutions make the PCNE an inspiring and a grace-filled three-day experience.
PCNE 3‘s theme is "Awa, Unawa, Gawa: The Filipino Experience of Mercy". It delves into the mercy we, Filipinos, feel, experience, and bring to one another. It seeks to uncover God‘s mercy in the unique traditions, practices, behavior, societal norms, and ethos of Filipinos. How do we forgive? How do we show compassion? How do we seek mercy? What are the Filipino acts of mercy? How is mercy shown in our lifestyle, in our management style, in our spiritual life, in our day-to-day interactions with others? Other Asians will surely find some affinity with the Filipino culture and experience.
The talks and discussions will focus on these questions and the Filipino narratives of mercy aim to deepen our understanding of the mercy of God and specifically how He is merciful to us Filipinos and Asians.
Let us then take this journey of discovery, understanding, and openness to God‘s call and bidding. As in the past two PCNEs, it will be an exciting pilgrimage of faith, especially in this Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, where we have the opportunity to renew, re-learn, reinvigorate our faith and re-embark on our mission of evangelization, with new expressions, new methods, new ways.
May Our Blessed Mother Mary walk with us. To God be all praise and glory!
